Soventix Solar Projects: Gauteng Grid-Tied Solution Taking Shape

Here at Soventix our primary goals are simple, exciting our clients with effective and efficient solar power solutions while contributing towards a cleaner future along the way.

In the spirit of showcasing some of our best projects, both big and small, we’ll regularly post updates so that our readers can stay informed.

We’re glad to announce that we have a new project taking shape in the Chloorkop area of Gauteng, near the O.R Tambo International Airport.

Understanding the Project

This fantastic 150.52 kW grid-tied solar project is due to start at the beginning of March 2016. The site of this combined ground and rooftop mounted solar solution will take shape in an old quarry which is currently used as a scrap metal yard.

This solution plans to make use of 265 Watt Canadian solar panels, utilising 5 Huawei inverters.

We are proud to provide our clients with a reliable energy solution that aims to play a vital role in cutting their energy costs.

Understanding a Grid-Tied Solar Power System

Grid-tied solar power systems, also known as grid-connected or on-grid, tend to be the most common solar solution and run in conjunction with the national grid. These systems are perfect for cutting energy costs as they allow you to generate a large amount of the energy required to power your business or home.

This fine-tuned solar power investment results in zero wastage and high return on investment, allowing our clients to only make use of utility power during emergency situations.

What about Net-Metering?

While feeding your excess energy back into the utility for compensation is still somewhat limited in South Africa, Eskom has definitely begun to understand the massive potential that solar power possesses.

Select municipalities now allow for a limited amount of excess energy to be off-set against energy usage, while others have begun allowing bi-directional metering. This means that your consumption is billed at a pre-determined rate, where energy that is fed back into the grid is reimbursed to the consumer at a separate energy rate.

Although these processes are still in the beginning stages, it paints a good picture for the future of solar power South Africa. This will hopefully help boost the amount of commercial and residential savings that solar power installation presents.
